Lynette Gray is the reason I first got excited about blogging and the creative industry in Scotland. Back in 2013, I assisted talented photographer John L Need with a photoshoot for Lynette’s emerging fashion brand Angel Pixie Love

At the time, I was setting up my journalistic blog The Question Cove ( and was so fascinated in Lynette’s story that I decided she would be my first interviewee.

Yesterday we reunited over coffee and I heard all about her exciting new project, Unexpected Art.

As part of Midfest (A multi-arts festival in Midlothian), from Tuesday 8th-Friday 11th of September, Dalkeith Arts Centre will be transformed into a creative community cornucopia. Local artists will be exhibiting their masterpieces, designers will be selling their crafts and textiles and homemade cakes and artisan coffees and teas will be on offer throughout the week.
What’s more, each day there are workshops at the venue, from yoga and meditation to jewellery making. A particular event to look forward to is  a design masterclass on Thursday the 10th with Donna Strachan of Ingingerness. Here you can create your own t-shirt, bag, wallet or mug from only £7!
The Unexpected Art launch night takes place this Monday which I will be helping out at so pop along and say hello from 6:30pm! You can meet the artists, be entertained with live music and poetry and enjoy a free drink or two! Don’t forget to peruse the pieces and pick your favourites, and pencil in the Friday evening to get involved with the Fundraising Auction Party. Part of all the profits go to deserving charity Pink Ladies First!
