Unexpected Art

Lynette Gray is the reason I first got excited about blogging and the creative industry in Scotland. Back in 2013, I assisted talented photographer John L Need with a photoshoot for Lynette’s emerging fashion brand Angel Pixie Love

At the time, I was setting up my journalistic blog The Question Cove (http://thequestioncove.wordpress.com) and was so fascinated in Lynette’s story that I decided she would be my first interviewee.

Yesterday we reunited over coffee and I heard all about her exciting new project, Unexpected Art.

West End Makers Fair

On a rainy Thursday morning Ruth popped to The West End Fair in Edinburgh to check out local talent from the craft-o-sphere, and discovered a whole host of fantastic creative products and chatted to some lovely designers.

A firm favourite was Carol Capaldi Crafts – a stall crammed full of quirky, kitsch gifts. Her vintage upcycled mosaics adorned everything from tile wall hangings to a guitar (which is firmly on the wishlist for a certain someone’s birthday present!) Check her out on Etsy!

Another fab company was Eclectic Shock. They were offering exquisite costume jewellery, from cuffs made with dismantled pocket watches, to pendants dangling with tiny jars of fairy dust. Other finds included gorgeous stained glass decorations, hand painted feathers, stunningly delicate fashion illustrations and The Edinburgh Bow Tie Company,
