From the 23rd to the 25th April 2015, the Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) Fashion and Textiles Show took place, a spectacle of design students showcasing their collections in front of students, bloggers, families and the fashion elite. We both had the unbelievable opportunity to model on the catwalk, and get the up-close and personal backstage experience.
A huge perk of the job were the people we mingled with; ballsy make-up artists, fun-loving models, and fashion students frantically sewing hems just to name a few! We also met the wonderful designers, ranging from freshers to fourth years. Some existing friends were taking part too and we certainly made some new ones. Our lunch breaks were spent sunbathing by Edinburgh Castle and munching on falafel from Graze Cafe in the Grassmarket. Rehearsals and fittings kicked off a busy week. From 10am we were packed into the crowded dressing rooms and assigned outfits, running orders and dressers. One of our favourite backstage moments was being pampered in hair and make-up, that goes without saying!
A huge fear for us was the strutting-our-stuff-in-stilletos part, as for nearly 6 foot girls it isn’t a regular activity! So, the show itself! From audience members we heard that it was incredibly entertaining, and really professional; we agree! Take a peek at the hashtags #ecafashionshow #edinburghcollegeofarton Twitter and Instagram.
Everyone who contributed to the shows were incredibly talented, but we have slight bias over the gifted designers we walked for. Kiki McKenzie and Melissa Villevieille had made such intricate and beautiful clothes and accessories. Architects Of The Body collection was also amazing, with dresses that defied gravity! Overall, it was an unforgettable experience, and we are already excited for next year’s show!
